Inspiration
I wrote this as a nerdy homage to Baldur’s Gate 3, one of the best story experiences I’ve had in years. I’ve done multiple playthroughs and, yeah, I mostly ended up with Shadowheart and once with Karlach, never with Lae’zel. But she absolutely earned her place in my party nonetheless. Her constant bickering with Shadowheart is peak entertainment, and more than once she straight-up dragged my run out of situations that should’ve ended in a reload. So this song doesn’t come from a romance angle. It’s more of a salute to that “get up, sharpen the blade, push forward” energy: duty tested, authority questioned, and a will that refuses to be owned. It’s basically me saying: “you were a pain, you were a powerhouse, and you saved my skin.
Lyrics
A burning wreck a sky torn wide She crawls from ash with wounded pride Under a sun that feels too bright She checks the blade prepares the fight Speak your mind or taste my blade No time to bleed no time to sleep The shadows here are dark and deep While others pray or freeze in dread She counts the living and the dead Yield to none and show no fear No crown owns me No throne commands If duty's clean we pay the price If duty lies it's sacrificed Call me harsh call me stone Just don't call me owned White walls cold ranks a promised cure A voice demanding pain so pure Obey and be made worthy now But worth is not a simple vow She senses rot beneath the hymn The vile command that hides within Her jaw is set her hands hold firm She draws the blade and breaks the term Trust me I am not a child I am the end No crown owns me No throne commands If duty's clean we pay the price If duty lies it's sacrificed Call me harsh call me stone Just don't call me owned The relic breaks the captive walks To end the dark he takes the skin A victory sweet yet filled with grief A saving bought with kith and kin She sees the truth a leader gives Then turns that loss into a drive No weapon now no sacred tool A burning storm she comes alive Face the foe and conquer it Action not words No crown owns me No throne commands We break the bonds We take the sky Call me harsh call me stone Just don't call me owned Just don't call me Owned
